Q: How many laps = a mile on the indoor track?
A: 9

Q: Where can I find the latest schedules?
A: Open gyms schedules can be found by referencing the open gym drop down menu above. All facility calendars can also be found at garner.recdesk.com.
Q: When can I come in to use the gyms?
A: Participants will not have access to the gyms outside of scheduled open gym times or registration-based programs. Open gym spectators are required to purchase a membership or visitor pass.
Q: What is the multi-purpose field used for?
A: Town sponsored community events, preschool leagues and open play for programs and the general public. A membership is not required to utilize the space, but Town of Garner park rules (below) and ordinances apply.
- Parks are open from sunrise to sunset.
- Alcoholic beverages are prohibited.
- All pets must be kept on leashes. Please clean up after your pet.
- Unauthorized motorized vehicles are prohibited.
- Use of drones in parks is prohibited.
Q: Are masks required?
A: No, masks are optional in all Town of Garner facilities.
Q: What type of fitness equipment is available to members?
A: 2 elliptical and 2 bikes are located on the track and are first come, first serve to members. The facility does not have a dedicated weight room, but fitness equipment is used as part of fitness classes that require pre-registration.
Q: How do visitor passes work?
A: Sales for visitor passes are good for access to open gyms and the track. No reentry allowed. Non-resident visitor passes are not sold on Sundays. We suggest purchasing a membership if you plan to participant in open gyms or use the track regularly.
Q: Do I have to be a member to register for programs?
A: Memberships are not required to register for programs like fitness classes, leagues and camps. All programs currently open for registration can be found here.
Q: What are the age requirements for memberships?
A: Youth 17 and under must have a parent present to register for a membership and present during all open gyms except for after school open gyms where staff are present. Avery Street Recreation Center offers an open gym program for unaccompanied youth once registered. For more information on how to register, contact Victor Davis.
Q: How do I apply for a job at the Garner Recreation Center?

Q: What is the process to become an instructor at the Garner Recreation Center?

Q: How do I sign-up to be a volunteer?
A: We are always seeking interested volunteers to coach youth basketball and volleyball teams. Interested volunteers can contact vdavis@garnernc.gov.
Q: How do I know if I'm a Garner resident or non-resident?
A: You must live inside the corporate limits of Garner at the time of your registration in order to be charged the Town of Garner resident rate. All others will be charged the non-resident rate. Reference this interactive map to check your residency status (residents in light orange).
Q: Can I bring my own equipment?
A: Equipment is provided for all open gyms and most classes (unless otherwise noted when registering). No outside equipment is allowed with the exception of pickleball paddles. To check out equipment, an ID or membership card will be held behind the front desk until the equipment is returned. If the equipment is not returned there will be $25 lost equipment fee applied to their Account
Q: Can I bring in outside food and drink?
A: Outside food and drink are allowed inside the facility, but no food or drinks allowed in gyms. There are vending machines located in the lobby area.
