The Nobel Prize for Civic Accomplishment

The National Civic League named Garner one of 10 All-America Cities for 2013. The award recognizes citizen initiatives and engagement, cross-sector collaboration, innovation and inclusiveness. It showcases grassroots solutions that meet pressing community challenges and needs. This prestigious honor has been dubbed the Nobel Prize for civic accomplishment.

Garner's winning application and presentation focused on three main citizen-led projects: the Garner Veterans Memorial, Community of Hope and the movement to make Garner Performing Arts Center a cultural arts hub for the town.

Garner's written application to become a 2013 All-America City finalist provides great background about the town and its many citizen-led initiatives.

Town staff remain engaged with the All-America City Awards program, including mentoring finalist communities and providing volunteer assistance during the annual awards competition.
