Local & State Affordable Housing Financing Programs 

For-profit and non-profit developers are invited to submit a proposal for funding to assist in the new development and/or rehabilitation of affordable rental housing for low-income families. Developers applying for funding under the 4% or 9% Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) requests for proposals must also be seeking an allocation of 4% or 9% federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) through the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency (NCHFA).

Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Program

The North Carolina Housing Finance Agency allocates the state's allotment of low-income housing tax credits on behalf of the federal government.  Interested developers in Wake County should contact the Central Pines Regional Council, the administrator for NCHFA programs, to learn about eligibility and submit an application for credits.

Developers may also submit applications for funding under the Non-Tax Credit request for proposal, which does not require application for LIHTC. Funds are available in the form of low-interest rate loans that may be used for construction or permanent financing in the development of tax credit projects.

 Wake County Coordinated Entry System

Coordinated entry is a process designed to connect individuals and families experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness to emergency resources. Wake County has five access sites in Raleigh. These sites can: 

• Provide friendly and compassionate service
• Assess your needs
• Assist in coming up with creative solutions
• Assist in figuring out what resources are available to you
• Provide referrals to shelters, street outreach projects, or prevention programs as needed
