The Town's Public Works Department is ready for any inclement weather that might come our way in the winter. In the event of a weather event that includes snow or ice, Public Works first deploys all plows to the emergency routes (designated in red on the map below) that are Town-maintained roadways. Once crews have completed these routes, they divert a plow to each of the five color-coded districts shown on the map.

Public Works will continue to plow the emergency routes throughout the event. It will be the department's goal to keep a plow working in its assigned district throughout the event, assuming the emergency routes are addressed. Depending on road conditions, crews may at times bring plows from the districts back to the emergency routes.

This district system allows Public Works crews to work across the entire town at the same time. Some larger thoroughfares (e.g. U.S. 70, U.S. 401) will be serviced by NCDOT crews.
