A-Annexation
This sign tells you an annexation has been petitioned for the property of the sign posting. The public hearing will be hosted at the next Town Council meeting where community members are invited to speak in favor of or in opposition to the petition. Annexations must be voluntarily petitioned by the property owner. The Town of Garner cannot involuntarily annex a property into town limits without extensive efforts including a vote by those to be annexed.

D-Development Agreement
This sign tells you a development agreement is being considered during a legislative public hearing at the next Town Council meeting where any interested party is invited to speak in favor of or in opposition to the proposed agreement. These are typically associated with one or more development projects in a particular area with collective public improvements proposed.

M- Rezoning Public Meeting
This sign indicates the property has moved on from the initial public hearing in front of the Town Council and will next be presented to the Planning Commission, followed by the decision meeting at Town Council. Interested parties are invited to appear and speak in favor of or in opposition to the request at the Planning Commission. Additional comments at the decision meeting of the Town Council are subject to the Council's discretion / policy.

S-Special Use Permit
This sign tells you a special use permit plan will be presented for a public hearing at an upcoming Town Council meeting. Most of these will have a decision made by the Town Council in the same meeting. These are evidentiary hearings where both the applicant and other interested parties present competent sworn evidence in support of, or in opposition to, the application.

V- Variance
This sign tells you that a variance application will be going to the Board of Adjustment for consideration. Where, owing to special conditions, a strict enforcement of the provisions of the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) would result in unnecessary hardship to the property owner, through a quasi-judicial evidentiary hearing, the Board of Adjustment is authorized to grant variances from standards of the UDO in accordance with the public interest or the spirit of the UDO. These are evidentiary hearings where both the applicant and other interested parties present competent sworn evidence in support of, or in opposition to, the application.

X- Street Closure
This sign indicates an application to permanently close a town-owned street right-of-way will be considered by the Town Council. Only adjacent properties can apply for closures; however, any interested party may appear at the legislative public hearing to speak in favor of or in opposition to the request. If approved, half of the street right-of-way is returned to each adjacent property owner.

Z-Rezoning Public Hearing
This sign tells you a rezoning application will be considered by Town Council during a legislative public hearing where any interested party is invited to speak in favor of or in opposition to the request. Following the public hearing, rezonings are routed to Planning Commission for an advisory review and recommendation prior to returning to Town Council for final decision.
