Policy on Employment of Relatives

A. The Town prohibits the hiring and employment of immediate family in regular positions within the same work unit or department. At the request of a department head, the Town Manager may make an exception for family members in the same department on a case-by-case basis.

B. The Town also prohibits the employment of any person similarly who is an immediate family member of individuals serving in an elected position (Mayor and Town Council Members), employed in the Human Resources Department, or holding the following positions: Town Manager, Assistant Town Manager, or Town Attorney. "Immediate Family" is defined as spouse, parent, guardian, children, sister, brother, grandparents, grandchildren plus the various combinations of half, step, in-law, and adopted relationships that can be derived from those named.
