About the Artist

Nora Crouch... happy to be involved in the painting world with vibrant color and vivid imagination!
From Saturday morning watercolor classes at our local museum when I was 12, to high school studio art with amazing teachers, I always dreamt of having my own music and art studio. I graduated from State University of New York, College at Cortland with a major in Studio Art, printmaking and a minor in music. I started a family and spent my days teaching piano and art classes from my home studio in Auburn, NY. As the years went by, I pursued mural work and piano instruction in various places on the East Coast of the US. Now, I have my studio right next door and after more than 40 years of teaching, my weekly students still keep me hopping! I create with pastels, watercolors, encaustic, and mixed media as well as acrylic paint. Considering my style to be romantic and impressionistic, painting landscapes, birds and abandoned houses….. I felt that abstract art was calling me.

So, in the summer of 2022, I began my first serious exploration of abstract art. This show has a mix of my favorite themes both real and imagined, impressionistic and abstract. I didn’t realize it then, but my abstract pieces mirror what is referred to as Lyrical Abstraction, {an art movement from about 1945 to 1970} a type of painting that is characterized by its highly expressive and emotive qualities. One of my favorite art highlights was a show in Oct. 2022 in Hertford, NC, {my current home}- I named ‘Flying High ‘, where I had the privilege of sharing my first collection of abstract works.

You will find me on Facebook as Nora Crouch and Rose Gate Studio. Instagram as Rosegatestudio.
