How to Participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count
1.Look for birds for about 15 minutes (or longer). Count birds in your backyard, local park, or wherever you spot one. It doesn’t even have to be in Garner! You can participate just once or as many times as you want during the event (February 18-21).
2. Track the species of birds and the number of each species. Use the “Merlin Bird ID” app to help identify what you see (or the attached common bird guide if you have a packet).
3. Use the form to upload your data to eBird, or count directly on the eBird app. You’ll need to make an account on the app or website. You can also email your completed form to wdpeducation@garnernc.gov and we’ll upload your data for you!
Thank you for participating!
4. (Optional) Go above and beyond to earn the NC Bird Count patch. Here’s how:
Complete a minimum of 5 eBird checklists during the event. Make sure you are sharing data with the North Carolina Bird Atlas in the eBird app settings.
