Enroll Now in Garner 101 and Citizens Police Academy
There are two great (and free!) upcoming opportunities to learn more about your Town government.
The Town is now accepting requests to enroll in the free spring 2018 Garner 101 citizens academy, set to start in March. Garner 101 consists of nine weekly classes—plus a graduation dinner and ceremony—designed to teach you about your municipal government. The classes are on Thursday evenings 6:30-8:30 p.m. (the exact time of some classes may vary slightly.)
You’ll participate in presentations by Town departments and key service providers. Presenters include the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department, the Garner Police Department, Raleigh Public Utilities and Garner Volunteer Fire-Rescue, Inc. Classes often involve facility tours that offer an inside look at how things really operate.
Enrollment in Garner 101 is on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information or to enroll, please contact Neighborhood Improvement Manager Reginald Buie at (919) 773-4446 or email@example.com.
The Garner Police Department is also starting the spring 2018 Citizens Police Academy on Feb. 27. It will run through May 1 on Tuesdays from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. (some classes may run longer).
The Citizens Police Academy is your opportunity to learn how your Police Department works, to meet officers who work in your community and to learn more about what it means to be a police officer in Garner today. The goal of this academy is to build relationships between officers and the community through better understanding of officers' jobs and functions. It also provides a forum for feedback and suggestions for improvement. Each week, one or more topics will be discussed by members of the department. You will have opportunities for hands-on practical exercises where appropriate.
