Town Wins Three Statewide Communications Awards
The Town of Garner won three Excellence in Communications Awards from North Carolina City & County Communicators (NC3C) earlier this month in an annual statewide competition that featured a record 133 entries.
The Town received two awards in connection with the Garner Forward outreach campaign, which seeks to educate residents about, and receive their input on, updates to Garner’s comprehensive and transportation plans. Town staff and PEG Media Partners’ Adam Carroll earned a first-place award for a promotional video about the Garner Forward campaign, and Town staff won a second-place award for citizen participation connected to the campaign.
“The Town of Garner did a wonderful job engaging the community in their Garner Forward project,” the judges commented. “The branding was consistent, the video was engaging and informative, and the project website was a helpful place for residents to find all of the information in one place.”
Concerning the use of social media, the judges commented that the Town should serve as an example to municipalities everywhere. They praised the use of video on Facebook and the documentation of achievements.
“These awards recognize some highly productive collaborations among Town departments and with PEG Media Partners,” Communications Manager Rick Mercier said. “We invest a modest amount of taxpayer dollars in communications for a jurisdiction our size and with our level of growth, but the return on that investment is immense in terms of quality, in terms of reaching and engaging our residents and in terms of building a strongly positive brand identity for Garner. We are a model for other communities around the state.”
The Town has won 12 NC3C Excellence in Communications Awards since 2012, placing it among the most honored jurisdictions in the state during that time period.
Judges for the 2017 NC3C Excellence in Communications Awards were government communication professionals from Kansas, Arizona, Texas, Michigan, Maryland and Oregon. Each judge has previously won state or national awards.
