Forrest Jones Named Public Works Director
Town Manager Rodney Dickerson announced on Feb. 3 the appointment of Forrest Jones as the Town of Garner’s next public works director.
Jones joined the Town’s Public Works staff in 2001 as streets supervisor and has held a series of progressively responsible roles within the department including assistant public works director for the past six years. He also had been Public Works’ interim director since November, filling the department head role following the retirement of former director Paul Cox.
Town Manager Dickerson has lauded Jones’ success in supervising operations, assisting with budgets and contributing to the long-range plans of the Public Works Department. He has also noted Jones’ leadership role in securing the department’s national accreditation in 2014.
“Forrest has worked in a number of areas and is competent in all aspects of Public Works—from operations to administration to special events,” Dickerson said. “His experience helping to get his department accredited speaks volumes about his knowledge of Public Works.”
Jones said it was an honor to be able to serve Garner in this new role.
“It’s a privilege to be able to serve our citizens in this capacity,” Jones said. “It’s exciting to have a chance to help shape our department so that it can meet the needs of Garner as it continues to grow. I really want to help raise our service to the next level, particularly by having a proactive maintenance department in all areas.”
Jones holds dual associate degrees from N.C. State University and has furthered his education with numerous certificates from N.C. State, the UNC School of Government and the American Public Works Association (APWA).
Jones is a volunteer firefighter with Garner Volunteer Fire-Rescue, Inc., and serves on the Advisory Council of the Local Government Federal Credit Union. He is also certified as an APWA accreditation evaluator and serves as secretary of the North Carolina APWA Streets Division Board.
